Individual and Couples Counseling in Sacramento

I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 18 years’ experience helping clients heal their past to create a brighter future.

I help individuals and couples heal old wounds and learn more effective ways of relating. I love working with a variety of clients including busy professionals, young adults and blended families.

Among my areas of expertise are:

My approach is strength-based (meaning I affirm your vision and ability to reach your goals) and relational (meaning that the power of our connection is where the transformation happens and is the most important part of the healing process).

I support, educate and empower you to effectively address life's opportunities and challenges. In addition to counseling, I enjoy giving educational presentations in the areas of my specialization.

My Background

I am from a large family that identified as Irish Catholic, like my dad.  My mom's family was from Utah and she was raised  Mormon. I attended my first 12 step meeting as a teen (Ala-Teen) and have benefited from utilizing several recovery programs throughout my life. Studying spiritual traditions of the East and West is a passion of mine. These influences impact who I am today and have been integral in shaping my life.  I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds and belief systems.

Transforming stressful relationships, traumatic events and unproductive behaviors are my passion. Serving as Director of Programs at a non-profit agency for 12 years helping victims of intimate partner and sexual abuse, I witnessed the devastation of abusive relationships. It became evident to me how important it is to be safe when dating and make wise choices when choosing a life partner.  I also learned more about setting boundaries, identifying red flags and managing stressful emotions. This work inspired me to help those looking for a partner make informed choices and transform distressed marriages into fulfilling life partnerships.

About My Office

I live and work in the home my parents built and where I was raised. After dedicating many years to personal transformation through therapy, I was inspired to purchase the family home to open my office, coming full circle in my own healing journey.

The counseling office has a private entrance and is in a separate wing of the home. Clients say it's a welcoming, comfortable place for their counseling.

Things I Love

I share my life and home office reception area with my husband, Walter, a commercial real estate broker and volunteer service dog puppy raiser. Alice, our service dog breeder, is also part of the family.  A rustic cabin on the Yuba River is our favorite place to have fun and replenish.

A Few Other Experiences That Influence My Work

  • I taught at CSUS in the graduate level counseling program helping students understand counseling theories and techniques.
  • Yoga and meditation have been a passion all of my adult life and help me be a calm, attuned counselor.
  • Graduate studies and an internship in pastoral counseling give me the ability to integrate spiritual understanding into the counseling.
  • To honor my deceased parents who served in the military and all veterans, I volunteer as a therapist for the Soldier's Project.
